Bear Mountain Resort GM Moves to The Rise in Vernon

GM to Open Fred Couples Signature Golf Course This Year

February 21, 2008, VERNON B.C. –The Rise, Okanagan’s premier golf and wine resort, has named Terry Yacyshen as resort general manager. Yacyshen’s responsibilities at the four season resort include The Golf Club at The Rise featuring the Fred Couples Signature Course, the winery, a boutique hotel and the Beach Club.

Yacyshen joins The Rise, whose Fred Couples Signature Golf Course was recently named by the ROBB Report as one of top new resort courses in the world, after holding the position of resort general manager at the Westin Bear Mountain Victoria Golf Resort & Spa. This spring, Yacyshen will manage the opening of The Golf Club at the Rise and oversee operations during its first year.

“This type of opportunity doesn’t come along often,” says Yacyshen, adding that he is looking forward to a dynamic environment at The Rise. “With Western Canada’s first Fred Couples Signature Golf Course and its vineyards, winery and Beach Club, The Rise has it all. Creating and maintaining operations for such a world class resort will be challenging and rewarding.”

Offering the most spectacular golf experience in Western Canada, The Golf Club at The Rise is the culmination of a ten-year partnership between legendary golf designer Gene Bates and one of the tour’s most popular players, Freddy “Boom Boom” Couples. With five tees on each hole, the Par 72, 7000+ yard championship course offers breathtaking views of the Okanagan Valley wilderness.  The course has been integrated into the rugged natural topography of the Vernon highlands and is designed to accommodate golfers at every level.

For the past six years, Yacyshen managed the capital projects and operational aspects of one of the biggest resort developments in western Canada. A native of Brandon, Manitoba, he entered the golf and hospitality industry as a golf professional with the Calgary Golf Country Club and received associate professional designation at the Red Deer Golf & Country Club. Yacyshen also played competitive golf including several satellite tours such as the Space Coast, Caribbean, Golden State as well as Canadian tours. After two years of competition, he moved to Valley Ridge in Calgary. Seeking a year-round opportunity, he later moved to Victoria where he became head professional at the Royal Colwood Golf & Country Club, followed by a move to the Westin Bear Mountain Victoria Golf Resort & Spa, also in Victoria.

“Terry brings a wealth of experience to us at The Rise in both opening the only Signature Golf Course in the Okanagan, and also in overseeing a truly remarkable year-round resort,” notes Leona Snider, president and ceo. “I am sure that he will help us move The Rise to new heights with his exceptional golf credentials and strong resort expertise.”
